Moving mesh generation using the Parabolic Monge-Ampère equation
This article considers a new method for generating a moving mesh which is suitable for the numerical solution of partial differential equations in several spatial dimensions. The mesh is obtained by taking the gradient of a (scalar) mesh potential function which satisfies an appropriate nonlinear parabolic partial differential equation. This method gives a new technique for performing r-adaptiv...
متن کاملA combined parabolic-integral equation approach to the acoustic simulation of vibro-acoustic imaging.
This paper aims to model ultrasound vibro-acoustography to improve our understanding of the underlying physics of the technique thus facilitating the collection of better images. Ultrasound vibro-acoustography is a novel imaging technique combining the resolution of high-frequency imaging with the clean (speckle-free) images obtained with lower frequency techniques. The challenge in modeling su...
متن کاملSolution Adapted Mesh Refinement and Sensitivity Analysis for Parabolic Partial Differential Equation Systems
We have developed a structured adaptive mesh refinement (SAMR) method for parabolic partial differential equation (PDE) systems. Solutions are calculated using the finite-difference or finite-volume method in space and backward differentiation formula (BDF) integration in time. The combination of SAMR in space and BDF in time is designed for problems where the fine-scale profile of sharp fronts...
متن کاملFixed-mesh curvature-parameterized shape optimization of an acoustic horn
We suggest a boundary shape optimization approach in which the optimization is carried out on the coefficients in a boundary parameterization based on a local, discrete curvature. A fixed mesh is used to numerically solve the governing equations, in which the geometry is represented through inhomogeneous coefficients, similarly as done in the material distribution approach to topology optimizat...
متن کاملA three-dimensional, two-way, parabolic equation model for acoustic backscattering in a cylindrical coordinate system
A new PE model for solving three-dimensional, forward and backward sound propagation in a cylindrical coordinate system is presented. The model marches a wave field in the radial direction including the azimuthal diffraction effects, and solves for a backscattered field based on a three-dimensional, single scattering approach. A periodic sidewall boundary condition is applied for computations i...
